This week we’re happy to announce the release of our latest feature: a configurable tenant firewall for Enterprise tier customers. Most organizations have a corporate firewall to monitor communications between their internal network and the Internet. A firewall is used to filter Internet content, and to prevent intrusions and attacks from hackers outside the organization. So what does that mean? It means the new configurable tenant firewall in our CMMS prevents users from accessing your CMMS who are outside the corporate network, allowed IP ranges, or IP addresses. If someone outside of the organization figures out your CMMS portal URL, they won’t be able to access the login page, making this feature ideal for organizations that use the guest request feature, but don’t want to make their list of assets available.
How does it work?
The new configurable tenant firewall is comprehensive, yet still flexible and simple to configure. Enterprise tier administrators can access the new firewall feature by going to the settings in their CMMS and clicking on “Security & Infrastructure” as seen below.
System administrators are able to do a number of cool things with the firewall including:
- Lock their CMMS access to particular IP addresses or IP ranges
- Create simple or complex firewall rules based on the user’s role in the organization
- Set an expiry time stamp for the rule
- Order and reorder firewall rules to indicate precedence
- View available IP addresses for each user in the CMMS
- Customize the blocked access message
For example, the CMMS can be locked down to the organization network IPs as well as the known remote IP addresses for each employee. It’s also possible to create firewall access rules for individuals, groups, or all users across
your entire CMMS. Each attempted connection to the CMMS is tracked and logged so system administrators can investigate where and when an attempted login occurs in the event of any suspicious activity.
It’s important to remember that global firewall settings will apply to your entire platform and should only be implemented by an experienced IT professional who has a comprehensive understanding of your corporate network security policies, as incorrect use of these firewall settings may result in the inability to access your CMMS.
We know how important your data is which is why we take security so seriously. This powerful tool offers you yet another way to protect your CMMS. You can also help keep your data secure by using strong passwords, updating to the latest browsers which support the latest security and data encryption protocols, and of course locking down IP addresses that can access your data using the new configurable tenant firewall feature.
